To provide quality early childhood learning experiences and comprehensive child and family services which empower low-income families and their children to maximize their success.

What we do

Head Start of Shawnee Mission is a non-profit agency serving low income children and families in Johnson County, Kansas. All enrolled children and families are provided comprehensive services, including a voluntary, high quality early childhood education, health, mental health, disability, nutrition, parent involvement and social services. This is what makes Head Start programs unique. We provide services to the whole family in order to best prepare the family for future self-sufficiency.

Who we help

Families are eligible for Head Start if they are living at 100% of the Federal Poverty Level, which for 2013 is $19,530 for a family of three.

How can you help?

Head Start of Shawnee Mission receives a portion of it’s funding from federal and state grants and relies on individual contributions, corporate and foundation grants for the rest.

Every $100 we receive of federal dollars must be matched with $25 in cash or in-kind contributions.
