Parent Involvement |
|
Head Start of Shawnee Mission encourages parents to be actively involved in the education of their children. Some of the ways in which parents connect to their child’s first educational provider include: · participating in the governance of the agency; · taking advantage of networking and socialization opportunities; · attending training sessions on a variety of skills needed to be a better parent and community resident.
Our Policy Council, comprised of elected representatives from Early Head Start and Head Start parents, and the community at large, is one of the two governing bodies of the agency. The Council meets monthly to review financial and program reports and approve budgets, policy changes, program direction and staff hires.
Parent Committee/1st Thursdays meets monthly for a variety of activities and training opportunities, ranging from financial planning, to car seat safety, to how to talk to your child about their sexual development.
The H.I.M., His Involvement Matters program is a series of activities that encourage male involvement in a child’s life.
Literacy events promote reading and related activities for parents to do at home with their children.
Regularly-scheduled Play Groups to promote developmental, educational and social involvement for parents of Early Head Start children.
